Bestselling author and creative writing professor George Saunders G'88 was awarded the Library of Congress Prize for American Fiction during the 2023 National Book Festival. The award recognizes writers whose works convey something essential about the American experience with a unique style and heft.

Saunders is author of 12 books, including Lincoln in the Bardo, which won the 2017 Man Booker Prize for best work of fiction in English. His most recent book, Liberation Day, is a collection of short stories and was chosen as one of President Barack Obama’s favorite books of 2022.
