A&S Forensics Director Featured in NPR Coverage on Advances in DNA Investigation

The article outlined genetic genealogy approaches that could assist investigators working on the Nancy Guthrie case.

Kathleen Corrado, executive director of the Forensic and National Security Sciences Institute at Syracuse University, was quoted in an NPR article examining how emerging genetic genealogy tools are assisting investigators in the disappearance of Nancy Guthrie, mother of Today Show co‑host Savannah Guthrie.

Among the tools highlighted was forensic investigative genetic genealogy (FIGG), which incorporates public genealogy websites with DNA analysis. FIGG has become increasingly useful in active investigations, complementing the traditional Combined DNA Index System (CODIS), a federal database of genetic profiles primarily collected from individuals suspected or convicted of crimes.
