Facing Forward

For 150 years, the iconic Hall of Languages has looked toward the future meeting the needs of each new era of students. See how this enduring beacon of educational excellence has changed through the years.

The Hall of Languages was dedicated on May 8, 1873. It was designed by Horatio Nelson White in the Second Empire architectural style.

It bears a striking resemblance to the Gridley Building in downtown Syracuse, also designed by White.

It was said to have inspired the house for the 1964 TV show The Addams Family.


The Hall of Languages was listed on the National Register of Historic Places in 1973.
